MONMOUTH — The Monmouth boys basketball team pulled away from Boothbay with a strong third quarter on both ends of the floor to earn a 63-52 Mountain Valley Conference victory on Saturday.

Monmouth trailed at halftime, 29-25, after being outscored 16-8 in the second period. Led by three 3-pointers from Sammy Calder, along with five free throws by Hunter Frost and five points by Manny Calder, the Mustangs put up 23 points in the third while holding Boothbay to six, thereby turning the four-point deficit into a 48-35 advantage.

Sammy Calder led all scorers with 19 points, while Manny Calder finished with 14. The Calders combined to make seven 3-pointers. Frost added 12 points and Gavin Willett scored 11 for Monmouth (5-3).

Lucas Hardwick (three 3-pointers) and Matt Sullivan each tallied 16 points for the Seahawks (2-3).

OAK HILL 59, HALL-DALE 54: Ramon Spearman led all scorers with 24 points and the Raiders (4-3) held off the Bulldogs (3-5) to notch an MVC victory in Wales.

Oak Hill led 36-22 at halftime after outscoring Hall-Dale 24-11 in the second quarter. The Bulldogs cut eight points out of the deficit in the third quarter, but the Raiders kept the fourth quarter even and earned their fourth win of the season.

Spearman made 10 field goals and four free throws. Teammate Caden Thompson hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 17 points.

T.J. Wilson paced the Bulldogs with 21 points, including three 3s, and Max Byron scored 12 points.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 69, LAKE REGION 57: Nate Hebert incited a dominating start with five first-quarter 3-pointers for the Patriots (5-3) in their victory over the Lakers (5-4) in Naples.

Gray-New Gloucester hit seven treys in the opening quarter, added three other field goals and made all three of its free throws while outscoring Lake Region 30-7 in the period.

Hebert finished the game with six 3s and 26 points. Maxwell Kenney (three 3s) contributed 13 points to the winning effort, and Jay Hawkes scored 10.

Jacob Chadbourne and Jackson Libby led the Lakers with 19 and 18 points, respectively.

BREWER 79, MT. BLUE 66: Three players scored 17 or more points to lead the undefeated Witches’ (8-0) to victory over the Cougars (4-5) in Brewer.

Brock Flagg hit five 3-pointers and paced Brewer’s balanced attack with 19 points. Ryder Goodwin and Brady Saunders (three 3-pointers) each finished with 17 points.

Mt. Blue’s Zach Poisson (four 3-pointers) and Evans Sterling tied for the game-high with 20 points apiece. Jayden Meader added 10 and Justin Dill scored eight.

FREEPORT 79, POLAND 56: Colby Arsenault scored 25 points for the Falcons (4-2) in a win over the Knights (3-4) at Freeport.

J.T. Pound chipped in 15 points and Blaine Cockburn had 14 for Freeport.

Hunter Gibson led Poland with 27 points.

MOUNTAIN VALLEY 89, WISCASSET 18: Zach New led a Falcons (4-3) scoring attack that included 12 different scorers in a Mountain Valley Conference win over the Wolverines (0-7) in Rumford.

New scored led all scorers with 20 points. Airick Richard added 11 points, Colby Frisbie contributed 10 and Bradyden Duguay and Tucker Laramee each finished with eight.

Nate Shutte led Wiscasset with 13 points, including three 3-pointers.

CARRABEC 71, BUCKFIELD 35: Luke Carey scored 18 points and had 14 assists to lead the Cobras to an MVC win over the Bucks in North Anson.

Daniel Handley scored 16 points, while Joel Gerke and Ben Clark each added 10 points for Carrabec (6-2).

Gavin Charest led Buckfield (0-7) with 18 points.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 35, LAKE REGION 28: Ali Portas led all scorers with 14 points to propel the Patriots (5-1) to a win over the Lakers (2-6) in Gray.

Portas also had seven assists, and Emma West chipped in eight points for Gray-New Gloucester.

Abby Lavoie and Ava Smith each scored nine points for Lake Region.

LEWISTON 50, NOBLE 26: Koral Morin led the Blue Devils (3-4) with 17 points in a win over the Knights (1-7) in North Berwick.

Natalie Beaudoin chipped in 13 points for Lewiston and Ellie Legare scored 12 points.

Meghan Kotsonis dropped in nine points for Noble and Olivia Howard added eight.

MOUNTAIN VALLEY 53, WISCASSET 31: Autumn Freeman led the Falcons (6-1) with 18 points in a win over the Wolverines (1-2) in Wiscasset.

Mountain Valley’s Emma Clukey added seven points to the victory.

Bella Orr scored a team-high 17 points for Wiscasset.

OXFORD HILLS 68, MASSABESIC 57: Molly Corbett drained five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Vikings (7-0) pull away from the Mustangs (5-3) in Waterboro.

Oxford Hills took a five-point lead into the final period, then, propelled by Corbett’s hot hand, outscored Massabesic 19-13 in the quarter.

Corbett finished with seven 3-pointers and a game-high 25 points. Seirra Carson added 15, including 7-of-10 shooting from the free-throw line.

Micaela Jacobs topped Massabesic with 22 points, and Hannah Samson added 15.

MARANACOOK 66, LEAVITT 29: Allie Labelle scored 16 points, leading the Black Bears to a home KVAC victory in Readfield.

Labelle was joined in double figures by Natalie Mohlar, who scored 11 points, while Grace Dwyer scored nine. Maranacook (4-3) led 33-7 at halftime.

Caitlyn McCoy scored 11 points and Jazzlyn Clark had eight for the Hornets (1-7).

MT. BLUE 46, BREWER 32: The Cougars’ (3-6) defense held the Witches (2-6) to a single point in the third quarter, and the offense did its part to pull away in Farmington.

Katelyn Daggett scored seven of her game-high 19 points in the third, during which Mt. Blue tallied 13 points to build a 35-16 lead heading into the fourth.

Eva Stevens made five 3-pointers and scored 17 points for the Cougars. Stevens and Daggett each grabbed nine rebounds. Eryn Parlin also had nine boards to go along with eight assists, six blocks and two points. Caitlin Burke contributed six points and four rebounds.

Allie Flagg and Jenna McQuarrie scored eight points each for Brewer, and Mariah Roberts added seven.
