Lisbon United Methodist Church held its 5th Neighbors Helping Neighbors 5K Run/Walk Sept. 11.
There were 24 participants — including two dogs — who, after a year of virtual races or none at all, were able to physically participate in an event that supports important community programs that help their neighbors.
The donations from event sponsors and registrants yielded a donation of $2,428 for Tedford Housing’s Warm Thy Neighbor heating assistance program. When presented with the check, the organization’s Executive Director Rota Knott expressed her heartfelt thanks, saying the community’s generosity will provide about 700 gallons of heating fuel for qualifying families this season.
The NHN 5K planning team acknowledged its volunteers — Ginny Barden, Dawn King, Deano Logan, Dean Logan and Carolyn Jones — who helped with the setup and provided direction for the runners and walkers along the route; to Randy Jones, for his protection of the participants along the course; and to the finish line team: Lisa Brown, Lynn Brooks and Dave McCusker.
Awards were given to the top finishers for men, women, students and walkers categories. Steven Dubois, first place — men, finished in 21:36; Melanie Davis, first place — women, finished in 24:14, and first place — student, Elsie Winokurzew, finished with a time of 25:30. The full list of participants and their times, as well as pictures, can be found at lisbonumchurch.org/neighbors-helping-neighbors-5k-run/.
The next NHN 5K is scheduled for Sept. 10, 2022.
