In appreciation of the splendid cooperation given by his salesmen, William Richard of Richard’s Exclusive Shop presented each employee with a ten dollar gold piece and a personal letter of appreciation for a Christmas gift.
50 Years Ago: 1971
A supper meeting for Fidelity Rebekah Lodge members was highlighted by a “Show and Tell” hobby show. The event was held Tuesday evening at the Odd Fellows Hall, 100 Pleasant Street, Auburn. Mrs. Jennie Jones displayed tatting work on luncheon cloths; Mrs. Aurel Fales demonstrated rug hooking with a frame and cutter; Mrs. Linda Walker displayed hooked rugs, pillows and wall hangings; Mrs. Marie Hoffman displayed beaded flowers and vase arrangements; and Mr. and Mrs. Philip Emerson showed souvenir pictures and plates collected over the years. Refreshments were served by Roberta Spiller and Theresa Fuller. During a brief business meeting it was voted to donate $25. to the Nurses Scholarship Fund.
25 Years Ago: 1996
The playground project at the Guy E. Rowe School got $1,000 closer to completion on Thursday, Dec. 12, when Oxford Wal-Mart presented a check for $1,157 to the schools’ Parent Teacher Association. Larry Koch, principal Rowe School, was at the store to accept the check on behalf of the PTA. Store manager Allison Dulac told Koch, as she presented him the check, “Our associates, most of whom live in this area, are pleased and excited that we could help with the building of the playground. “The new playground is a wonderful project.” Koch“ said. “It will benefit not just the children who attend Rowe School, but families throughout the area. For many years to come, parents and grandparents will bring kids to enjoy this equipment.”
