Jen Fullmer of the Biddeford-Saco Rotary Club plans to speak to the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, via Zoom.
She will talk about the rescue and resettlement of an Afghan family to Maine.
Fulmer and her husband rescued an Afghan military colleague and his family who they are helping to resettle in Maine. She will tell the story of how so many of their former armed forces colleagues, working with their contacts in Afghanistan, were able to pull this family to safety just before the airport in Kabul closed.
She is making a plea of Rotary clubs in District 7780 (southern Maine and coastal New Hampshire) to help purchase computers to assist family members in obtaining certification in their professions.
Fullmer will speak to Rotarians via Zoom at a hybrid meeting at Stella’s on the Square, 4 North High St. in Bridgton. For the Zoom link, contact George Szok at gszoksbox@gmail.com. For more information about this speaker, contact Carol Madsen at carjmad@hotmail.com.
The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club continues to watch closely the guidance from the Maine CDC regarding in person indoor meetings. Members have elected to hold hybrid meetings going forward, meaning they will meet in person at Stella’s on the Square, and offer a Zoom feed to those who do not feel comfortable meeting in person.
Current guidelines require that all visitors must wear masks until their vaccination status is confirmed.
