MECHANIC FALLS — A vehicle traveling on Pleasant Street in Mechanic Falls crossed the center line Saturday afternoon and was involved in a head-on collision with another automobile, according to police.
The second vehicle was then hit from behind by another automobile, driven by a motorist who was unable to stop in time, according to Sgt. Paul Schroder of the Mechanic Falls Police Department.
The crash, reported just after 1 p.m., sent the drivers of the first and second vehicles to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with unknown injuries, although both motorists were speaking with rescue workers, Schroder said.
“It’s a miracle that it wasn’t worse,” he said. The first driver “had to be extricated from the vehicle, so (firefighters were) on scene to assist with that.”
Firefighters from Mechanic Falls and Poland responded to the crash.
Further details were not available Saturday night, and the crash remained under investigation, according to Schroder.
