LEWISTON — A holiday celebration highlighting different cultural traditions will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Museum L-A, 35 Canal St.
Season of Giving is a joint effort by the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council and the museum. Foods, games and information on the history of Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa traditions will be offered.
“It is my hope that the event will spread some holiday cheer and be enjoyed by Lewiston community members of all ages,” council Chairman Ryleigh Emmert said in an announcement from the city.
Each holiday will have its own display, as well as gift baskets that will be raffled. The council will raffle four $50 gift cards.
Canned goods and toiletries will be collected for individuals in need and for Safe Voices, a nonprofit that provides emergency and support services to victims of domestic violence. The Bates Mill Bell will be rung for every 10th donation.
“One of our key goals at Museum L-A is to celebrate the history and culture of our area in all of its richness, from 19th century traditions to today,” Museum L-A Executive Director Rachel Ferrante said. “We are thus especially delighted to partner with our friends at LYAC and to share the joy of all of our holidays and the obligations to each other that all of our traditions value. We hope everyone will join us at the Museum this holiday season.”
