Joyce Sarchi of Turner gives the Grinch a fist bump Thursday, after dropping her donation to the Salvation Army in the kettle at Hobby Lobby in Auburn. The Grinch (Steve Esposito) and Santa Claus (Jeff Reynolds) staffed the kettle during the Salvation Army’s annual Kettle Blitz, a one-day competition among Salvation Army Corps. “The kettle donations have been down,” said Esposito. “If we are halfway to our goal, we are lucky,” said Reynolds, who has been a bell ringer for nine years. “This may be the first time that I have kettled that we may not reached our goal. “I’m sad about that,” said Reynolds. Bell ringers from the Lewiston Salvation Army have through Christmas Eve to make their goal of $100,000. Daryn Slover/Sun Journal
