Isaac Hayden resides in Whitefield. He is a senior from Erskine Academy in South China enrolled for the second year in the electrical technology program.

He likes the atmosphere of the program, saying, “it is like a big group of friends working together,” according to a news release from the center.

He has found the Electrical Code Book challenging, but glad he is learning to navigate it, as it is key to passing the test to become licensed as a Master Electrician.

Hayden has found his knowledge and skills are in demand. He has fixed lights and switches at his house, as well as for relatives. His electrical technology program instructor Mike Parent called him “an outstanding student academically and a leader in the classroom. He is my go-to person for challenging projects or group work that requires leadership. He has earned the respect of his peers. His classmates often look to him as the standard to reach for. Isaac strives for continuous improvement and ways to challenge himself.”

After graduation, Hayden is interested in pursuing a career as a commercial electrician, as well as being open to other opportunities in the electrical field that may come his way and interest him.

Annmarie Perry Contributed photo

Annmarie Perry resides in Augusta, and is a senior from Cony High School enrolled for the second year in the law enforcement program.

She enjoys the program’s variety, which in a typical week has different instructors come in. It has a weekly “Mechanics of Arrest, Restraint and Control” hands on lesson with two officers from the Augusta Police Department, Donald Whitten and Derek Daley. Once a week, Sgt. Erika Yackulic of the Maine Army National Guard conducts drill and ceremony training along with a physical training session.

As a second-year student, Perry goes on ride-alongs with members of the Augusta Police Department. She has enjoyed seeing what she has learned in class being carried out in the field. She has witnessed traffic stops and accompanied officers on a variety of low-risk calls.

Her instructor, Peter Couture said, “Annmarie has established herself as a very dedicated, committed and dependable second-year student who has taken leadership, teamwork and motivation to a whole new level. Her perfect attendance adds to the pride she displays each and every day in the classroom as well as her continued interest and commitment to the Augusta Police Department ride-along program.”

Perry has enlisted in the Maine Army National Guard and leaves for basic training in June. She then plans to enroll in college with the goal of becoming a police officer in Maine.
