The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA afterschool program has developed a separate program for its fourth-sixth graders, due to a need for afterschool activity in the community for this age group. While at the YMCA the children do a variety of activities: swim, go on trips, cook, sew, do arts and crafts, and play gym games and field games. This winter and spring they will begin work on several community projects. Additions this winter will be “Reading Buddies” for first graders and “Pen Pals” for fourth-sixth graders. Debbie David is the new fourth-sixth grade group leader. She has been working at the YMCA for two years with children ranging from 2-12 years of age.
