DEAR SUN SPOTS: Bolster Heights Residential Care Facility is asking for help to provide our 85 residents with a magical, loving holiday season.

Our residents bravely face another holiday season under the Grinch of COVID. We are asking for donations for Christmas. Instead of a list of gifts to give, we are requesting cards of holiday cheer and stocking stuffer items for both ladies and gentlemen. Our residents need your love!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Every community in our state has unsung heroes who offer help wherever it’s needed without waiting to be asked. They are both long-standing members of the community and newcomers alike, who see what needs to be done and do it. We’re asking readers if you know someone like that — someone who is making a difference in the lives of others.

The Sun Journal would like to profile them in an upcoming story. Please email Day Managing Editor Mark Mogensen at mmogensen@sunjournal.com with the name of the person and a way to contact them, as well as your name and phone number. Please include a brief description of why you are thankful for this person and feel others should know about their contributions. — Mark, Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thanksgiving is a time of gathering, enjoying time and good food with family and friends, and giving thanks, but it doesn’t always go quite like that. The power goes out in the middle of the meal or Uncle Bob becomes overserved and loudly tells his version of his messy divorce with beloved Aunt Noni, rest her soul.

In one instance that Ms. Sun Spots is aware of, the oven died and the 22-pound turkey had to be roasted at her son’s apartment in his smaller oven a couple miles away then lugged back to the house to feed 10 guests.

The Sun Journal would like to hear about your Thanksgiving disaster and how you managed to be thankful just the same. Please send your tale to Sun Journal freelance writer Karen Schneider at iwrite33@comcast.net by Nov. 1, for an upcoming feature in the newspaper. — Mark, Lewiston
