100 Years Ago: 1921
George W. McFadden of Auburn has purchased the firm of Whitehouse Brothers, also of Auburn, a Section of Roak Bock, and the twelve tenement house on Miller Street in the rear of this block, Section 9, the section which has just changed hands, is at the westerly end of the block and is occupied as a shop, Whitehouse Brothers, a well-known local firm of masons.
50 Years Ago: 1971
Sam M. Nawfel Il., son of Dr. and Mrs. Michael M. Nawfel, Waterville, will present a program of piano solos at the fall board meeting of the Maine Federation of Music Clubs. The session will be at Roosevelt Motor Lodge, on College Ave, Waterville, on Oct. 23. This will be Nawfel’s second program for the group and his presentation will be after the luncheon. A member of the Waterville High School Senior class, Nawfel has studied piano with Sir Tigor Yusti, artist in residence at Colby College, Gerry Wright, Mrs. Irma Alley, Mrs. Harry McGinnis, and Mrs. Sebastian. He has also studied piano and organ at the New England Music Camp at Oakland for three summers. During the summer he served as substitute organist at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Waterville.
25 Years Ago: 1996
The Additon family held its 66th reunion recently at the home of Errol and Kathy Additon of Leeds.Those attending are the descendants of Thomas and Anna (Beals) Additon, who settled in Leeds about 1790. The oldest person present was Phyllis Additon, 91, of Cape Elizabeth, the youngest was Rebecca Additon, 9 months old, daughter of Donald and Debra Additon of Hampden. Dennise Whitley of Tucson, Aris., came the greatest distance. Other states represented among the 79 people attending were Colorado, Mississipot, Florida, Virginia, Tennessee, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. Family members reported on seven marriages, and five births in the course of the year. Couples present who have been married more than 50 years were Harold and Ruth Meade of Bridgton, 59; Norma and Dick Mansur of Greene, 58; and Wilma and Merrill Bradford of Bangor, 51. Sewall Additon of Auburn presided at the meeting. .
