DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is a request to see how many Belles of New England Telephone would like to get together for a reunion. It has been several years since most of us have been retired. We have lost many co-workers and our job as operators is now obsolete! An early response would be appreciated as we would like to meet by the end of October, first of November on a Wednesday before the snow flies. If you are interested, please call Bev at 207-966-3065. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you, Sun Spots. You are the first thing I read! — Bev, Hebron

ANSWER: What an interesting group! Enjoy your reunion and check out the hands-on, interactive Telephone Museum in Ellsworth (thetelephonemuseum.org), which features working telephones and the switchboards and switching systems that powered the network. Visitors are encouraged to use wall-mounted, hand-crank magneto phones, dial phones, and manual switchboards.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Once again the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club is holding a “document shred event.” It will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 23, at the John F. Murphy building at 800 Center Street, Auburn. A bankers’ size box of papers will be shredded for $10. The shredding safely disposes your documents to ensure against identity theft. It is also a great way to get rid of the paper clutter that is a part of many households.

Proceeds go to help the nonprofits in the community. Last year we were able to give over $6,000 to various agencies.

Sun Spots has made this event hugely successful because of the many readers of this column. Thank you for your help! — Celeste Yakawonis, Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club
