Michael Reed of Durham speeds down Route 136 in Durham on Friday in his three-wheeled Velomobile. The aerodynamic shell covers a recumbent tricycle. It was a human-powered vehicle until Reed recently installed an electric motor. He said he doesn’t go too fast and keeps flashing lights and safety flags on it at all times. If it’s his time to go, he joked, “Scrape me up and bury me in this; it’s paid for!” Andree Kehn/Sun Journal
