100 Years Ago: 1921

Saturday evening a hallowe’en party was given to the advanced pupils of the Lincoln school by their teacher, Miss Lila J. Allen in her father’s carpet factory which was well heated and spacious, an ideal place for parties, lending itself admirably to the weird Hallowe’en decorations which included balloons, flyers, black cats, bats and ghosts. The living ghosts were Beulah  Allen, and Miss E. Gleason; witch; Miss Vella Merrow, Indian fortune teller; Miss S. Eva Allen, whose tent was decorated with symbols of Hallowe’en.

50 Years Ago: 1971

Lewiston’s own Armory shimmered with colorful reminders of an earlier Pine Tree State as people from many sections of the State came here to take part in this social event of the Sesquitennial celebration. Dressed in appropriate dress for that earlier year when Maine attained Statehood, were Gov. Kenneth M. Curtis and his Lady, Mrs. Curtis; Atty. Dana W. Childs of Portland, State Chairman of the entire celebration program, and Mrs. Childs.

25 Years Ago: 1996

The Rumford Community Hospital’s mammography program has received the highest rating possible from the Department of Health and Human Services. The hospital was inspected in September under the Mammography Quality Standards Act and received a “no findings” rating. The inspection compared specific items to the standards in six major areas: equipment, performance, technologist quality control, medical physicist survey, personnel qualifications, medical reports and outcome audits.
