WESTBROOK — Ben Sirois scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and Degan Jordan scored two in the second as Leavitt built a big first-half lead and rolled to a 45-6 road win over Westbrook in a Class B football tilt Saturday.
Sirois opened the scoring on a 69-yard pass from Noah Carpenter. Carpenter added a 39-yard field goal, then Sirois ran into the end zone from 15 yards out, and after Dayton Calder’s two-point conversion run, the Hornets led 17-0.
In the second quarter, Jordan scored on a 14-yard run and an 8-yard pass from Carpenter. Blaine Shaw ran in the two-point conversion after the latter TD to make the score 31-0.
After halftime, Calder had a 9-yard touchdown run and Maddox Demers ran in a 40-yard TD, and Carpenter connected with Brett Coburn for a two-point conversion that extended Leavitt’s advantage to 45-0 in the third quarter.
Westbrook’s (2-3) Colin Allen returned a fourth-quarter punt 49 yards, the first points scored against Leavitt this season.
The Hornets’ (3-0) defense had four interceptions, one apiece by Sawyer Hathaway, Demers, Carpenter and Jordan.
BOYS SOCCER
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 2, OAK HILL 0: The Phoenix broke a scoreless tie late in the second half to down the host Raiders in an MVC contest in Wales.
Culley Johnson and Kaleb Finelli both scored goals and Joel Thornton added an assist for Spruce Mountain (4-4). Jacob Bryant stopped five shots in the shutout.
Cade Fessenden made nine saves for Oak Hill (4-4).
LEAVITT 1, MORSE 0: Cooper McGray scored off an assist from Kaden Trenoweth midway through the second half to lift the Hornets (3-4-2) past the host Shipbuilders (0-8-1) in Bath.
Leavitt goalie Myles Hanscom stopped six shots for the shutout, while Quintin Webster made nine saves for Morse.
YARMOUTH 7, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Jared Conant scored the game’s first goal and Yarmouth (8-0-1) added five more in the first half en route to a 7-1 victory over visiting Gray-New Gloucester (4-4-1) Saturday afternoon.
Conant, a senior captain, who uses a wheelchair because of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration, got the start on Senior Day and just 35 seconds into the game scored a goal for the fourth consecutive season. Isaac Grondin had the assist.
“It really meant a lot,” said Conant. “It was great to share the moment with my fellow seniors. I’m happy, but it’s bittersweet. It’s probably the last time I’m going to do this.”
“We always talk about working hard and not complaining and I’ve never heard Jared in the eight years I’ve known him ever complain,” said Yarmouth Coach Mike Hagerty. “He’s been a great role model for all of us.”
After the Patriots let Conant score, the Clippers reciprocated with an own goal, but after that, Yarmouth scored five times in 24 minutes to break it open, as Sutter Augur had two goals and Truman Peters, Adam McLaughlin and Sawyer Flowerdew all finished for a 6-1 halftime lead.
In the second half, Asher Lockwood scored late to complete the scoring.
GIRLS SOCCER
OAK HILL 8, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 0: Gabrielle Chessie netted a hat trick as the Raiders (5-0) shot past the Phoenix (1-8) in Wales.
Maddie Drew, Amara Denis and Paige Gonya each added a goal and an assist, while Gonya also spent time in the Oak Hill net but didn’t need to make any saves. Mackenzie Vattaso also was part of the shutout in goal (zero saves), and Aubrey McElhaney and Kendall Theriault scored goals and Peyton Gonya notched an assist.
Emma Towers made 15 saves for Spruce Mountain.
HALL-DALE 11, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 0: Marie Benoit had a hat trick along with an assist to lead the Bulldogs to the win in Farmingdale.
Lily Platt, Karlie Reith and Bethany Ives each added two goals for Hall-Dale (6-0-0), while Iris Ireland and Zoe Soule scored one apiece. Reith also had two assists, and Audrey Gilbert and Emily Seymour combined to make five saves.
Justice Gendron stopped 18 shots for the Falcons (3-5-0).
MT. ARARAT 2, LEWISTON 0: Isla Godo chipped in a goal in the 31st minute to give the Eagles (4-1-1) a 1-0 lead, and they held on to beat the Blue Devils (0-7) in Topsham.
Elena Willis finished off a pass from Amanda Pickens in the final minute of regulation for Mt. Ararat’s second goal.
LEAVITT 2, MORSE 0: First-half goals by Michaela Harrington and Hannah Milliken lifted the Hornets (3-5-2) to a road win over the Shipbuilders (2-7-1) in Bath.
Merit Liekelema assisted on Harrington’s goal and Riley Chiasson set up Milliken’s tally. Leavitt goalie Carlie Leavitt stopped seven shots in the shutout.
Morse’s Riley Walters made six saves.
