TURNER — The Leavitt football team’s late start has been a great start to the 2021 season.
The Hornets defeated Gardiner 33-0 in their homecoming game Saturday.
Leavitt, which had its first two games canceled due to its opponents’ COVID-19 issues, opened the season with a 41-0 victory over Wells 41-0 last week. In two games, the Hornets (2-0) have outscored their opponents 74-0.
Degan Jordan blocked a punt to set up Leavitt’s first score Saturday, a 5-yard run by Ben Sirois.
The Hornets carried the resulting 6-0 lead into the second quarter and then unloaded on the Tigers (1-3) with three touchdowns in the period. Trevor Bosse spilled into the end zone on a 13-yard run and Noah Carpenter connected with Brett Coburn for the conversion, extending the lead to 14-0.
Colton Taylor scored on a 3-yard run and Jordan returned an interception 30 yards for a TD, after which Carpenter split the uprights for the extra point that made Leavitt’s lead 27-0.
Noah Carpenter capped off Leavitt’s scoring with a 2-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
DIRIGO 50, TRAIP ACADEMY 6: Curtis Errington ran for three touchdowns as the Cougars (2-2) rambled past the Rangers (0-4) in Dixfield.
