LEWISTON — Janet Beaudoin, appointed to the School Committee by the mayor in June, is seeking election to a full term in November.
“To succeed in this position, I will continue to approach the work with an open mind, seeking out all perspectives, and working collaboratively with all stakeholders,” Beaudoin wrote in her announcement.
She said she would continue to advocate for children’s best interests, “as well as firmly standing up for our parents’ rights to make decisions for their children.”
Beaudoin has two children in city schools. She is passionate about the mental health and well-being of the city’s students, she said, “especially following the disruptive school year brought about by the pandemic.”
She said she would continue to advocate for children, parents, teachers and community members “as we begin returning to full-time, in-person schooling and navigate the additional hurdles we are likely to face as the pandemic evolves.”
Beaudoin has been active in the community for about 20 years, serving on the board of her local PTO and a variety of related committees such as the committee that structured the new Connors Elementary School, she said.
“More recently, I worked to energize the community in an effort to save our school resource officers,” she said. “This past year, I’ve had the opportunity to join a subcommittee working with the District Data Team and I look forward to spending more time analyzing and using the data we have to improve our outcomes and the environment for our students and school community members.”
