DAMARISCOTTA — River Arts has opened “Artist’s Choice,” an exhibition showcasing a breadth of artistic expression from Maine artists in the gallery at 36 Elm St.; masks required.
An opening reception is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, the exhibit will be on view through Saturday, Oct. 16.
Juror Simon van der Ven selected 73 artists from 153 entrants. Van der Ven noted, “I was very impressed by the quantity, variety, and high quality of submissions for the “Artist’s Choice” show. Selecting the pieces for the exhibition was no easy task. It’s very clear River Arts is at the center of a rich and nurturing arts community,” according to a news release from the gallery
The artists were asked to enter work in their individual styles without the limitations of subject matter. There were a record number of entries, and the resulting show offers an array of realism, abstraction, and impressionism, with works in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, ceramics, fiber, cut paper, glass, sculpture and photography.
Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
