Phillip Pelletier displays a rare six-leaf clover Wednesday that was growing in his yard in Sabattus. Four-leaf clovers are estimated to be 1 in 10,000. Five-leaf clovers are reportedly 1 in 1 million. There is no available data on occurrences of six-leaf clovers. The world record-holding clover, found in 2009 in Japan, sports an astonishing 56 leaves. Andree Kehn/Sun Journal
Phillip Pelletier found a rare six-leaf clover while sitting in his favorite chair in his yard in Sabattus. “I thought it was two clovers stuck together,” he said, “but when I looked closely at it, there was only one stem.” He decided not to pull it out of the ground until every leaf has completely unfurled. He plans to laminate it and pass it on to his daughter. Pelletier said he’s found several four-leaf clovers and carries one in his wallet. It’s not for luck because he has always made his own luck, he said. Andree Kehn/Sun Journal
