Celebration Barn Theater presents Antonio Rocha’s “Brace Yourself – Here Comes a Brazilian” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 31. The award-winning, internationally-acclaimed storyteller will share his comedic autobiographical tales of travel, life as an immigrant, and facing a Maine winter for the first time. The show takes place on the Barn’s outdoor, open-air stage.
This evening of storytelling for adults features Antonio’s unique fusion of mime and spoken word. With his tenor voice, realistic sound effects, unique characters and skillful movement, he performs original personal stories based on his life and immigration to the U.S. A native of Brazil, Antonio came to Maine to study with Celebration Barn founder Tony Montanaro in the 1980s. He continued on to study with Marcel Marceau, be featured in premier venues across the U.S., and perform at events in 15 other countries spanning 6 continents. Rocha was honored with the coveted Circle of Excellence Award by the National Storytelling Network.
“Antonio Rocha is … tender and fierce. He uses every tool at his disposal — his face, his voice, his body — in service of the tale to be told…He is a master,” said Mark Lutwak, former Director of Education for Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.
