A half-season’s worth of good finishes “finally” materialized into a Runnin’ Rebels victory for Addie McDaniel at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday.
The Buckfield driver has been close to the front all year in the Oxford Acceleration Series division, but Saturday night was the first time she captured a long-awaited win in the class. She has two Ladies division feature wins and one Cruisers division checkered flag to her name already.
“It feels amazing. I’ve been racing in the class since 2014, back when I was 14. I almost pulled it off a couple years ago, but ended up in the backstretch after a lapped car tried to turn someone else and got me instead,” McDaniel said. “I started driving aggressively this year and that’s helped a ton. I used to be too courteous and was scared to mess up someone else’s run.”
McDaniel beat out John Childs and points leader AJ Smith for the win. McDaniel entered the night second in points, with Childs sitting in third.
“I think a big key to it was being able to run the outside,” McDaniel said. “Not a lot of cars in our class are able to stick out there, so after the cars in front of me dipped into the first groove I was able to make my run to the front.”
Austin Teras picked up his first win of the season in the Super Late Model division after finishing runner-up the last time the weekly SLMs ran two weeks ago. Saturday night, the Gray native beat out fellow podium finishers Trevor Sanborn and Kyle DeSouza.
Other winners from the Oxford Championship series included: Billy Childs Jr. (Limited Late Models), Nick Wilson (Bandits), Karson Hewins (Rookies), Eric Hodgkins (Figure 8s).
In other Acceleration Series action, Breeanna Spaulding kept her dominance going in the Ladies division, beating out Amara Parker and series points rival Kasie Kolbe; Chris Foster picked up his first Outlaws victory of the season, edging out Brady Childs and division points leader Brandon Varney; Jeremy Decoster won his division-leading fourth Cruisers feature of the season, with points leader Dominik Knowlton the runner-up; Jake Dobson won in Sport Trucks to take over the points lead; Jason Cyr took the 4-Cylinder Figure 8s feature to pad his points lead.
WISCASSET WINNERS
Saturday night saw Wiscasset Speedway’s Group 2 in action, as well as the Roadrunners division, in addition to celebrating the track’s 52nd birthday. Winners included: Frank Moulton (Late Model Sportsman), Scott Trask (Outlaw Minis), Mac Hannan Jr. (Strictly Streets), Bruce Hall (Roadrunners), Adam Chadbourne (Modifieds).
RACING AT THE RIDGE
After a week off, regular weekly action resumed at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough. Winners included: Corey Bubar (Pro Series), Ryan Phillips (Sport Series), Adam Lovejoy (Wildcat), Dustin Salley (Beetle Bug Varsity), Chris Case (Beetle Bug JV), Paul Lund (Mad Bomber Varsity), Brandon Williams (Mad Bomber JV), Derrick Drown (Mighty Trucks).
PASS TOUR HEATING UP
It will be a busy week for the Pro All Stars Series. On Wednesday, both the PASS SLMs and the PASS Mods will head down to Massachusetts for a mid-week race night at Seekonk Speedway. The SLMs will run a 150-lap feature, while the Mods will battle for 50 laps.
The SLMs will then head home to Oxford Plains for a 100-lap, non-points Oxford 250 qualifier on Saturday, to go along with the weekly Oxford Championship Series divisions. The Oxford Acceleration Series divisions are scheduled to run Friday.
