100 Years Ago: 1921

The young people of the Elm Street Universalist church will hold a lawn party on the lawn before the church on Wednesday evening of this week. If the weather is unpropitious, it will be held in the vestry. Ices and soft drinks will be served and a short entertainment will be given.

50 Years Ago: 1971

The young fry of Topsham will be joining the high fashion crowd next week, sporting tie-dyed shirts. The dying experiment will be the featured craft Monday at the Topsham Summer Playground at the William School. Director Fontaine Boggs states each youngster is to bring a shirt suitable for dyeing Monday.

25 Years Ago: 1996

Auburn’s Arts After School announces instructors for its Summer Arts Camp to be held July 29 through August 16 at the Tot Lot, outer Center Street. Children can attend for a one-week session or any combination of weeks and there is after-camp care available for an additional charge. Vincent Myrand is returning to teach cartooning and help campers spark their creativity through his Science Fiction Art and Modeling course. Bethany Dunfee will use her artistic skills to help children create masks, design their own T-shirts, make puppets and perform puppet shows, and learn to use watercolors. Joran Elias will return again to share his passion for juggling with campers of all ages. And new this year will be “Doodles” the clown to teach campers the art of clowning and a young mime will complete the circus arts curriculum.
