WELD — Lake Day is back this year with lots of fun activities planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the head of Webb Lake.

Lake Day could not be held last year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Lake Day is a fundraiser for Webb Lake Association but our major reason is to have fun, everybody gets to get out,” organizer Lise Conant said in a recent phone interview. “It’s fully open to the public. You don’t have to be from Weld or a member of Webb Lake Association.”

Local craft vendors and folks with antiques will be there. Music will be provided by Linda Lee and friends. Hamburgers, red hotdogs and snow cones will be sold.

Children’s games will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A variety of games will be available depending on the number of kids and their ages.

“Lots of prizes will be awarded,” Conant said, “Everyone’s a winner.”

The corn hole tournament will be from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be a sign up board and ribbons will be awarded, she said.

Kayak and paddle board races are set for 12-2 p.m.

“Usually there are kids and adult divisions,” Conant said. “We will have boards and kayaks available to use. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded.”

Airplane rides will be available from Jack’s Air Service out of Greenville, she said. In the past the price has been $50 but fuel is more expensive this year so the price could be higher, she noted. The fully licensed company came two years ago, Conant added.

“We have had a plane the last eight years,” she said. “It’s very popular, there’s a line of people waiting even after 2 p.m.”

Proceeds from Lake Day are used to take care of Webb Lake, Conant said. Water testing and efforts to keep invasive plants out of the lake are some of the activities funds are used for, she noted.

On July 17, Webb Lake Association members will also be participating in the annual Maine loon count, Conant said. The lake will be divided into quadrants and at about 6-6:30 a.m. members will go out to determine the number of loons on the lake this year, she noted.
