Regional School Unit 18 (Oakland, China, Belgrade, Sidney and Rome) is sponsoring a USDA Summer Meals Program for Kids.
The school district plans to offer free breakfast and lunch meals from Monday, June 14 through Aug. 13, weekdays at sites throughout the district.
The program will follow federal regulations of “non-congregate” meal service. Parents/guardians and students can pick up meals at the following RSU 18 meal sites between 10 and 11 a.m.:
• Atwood Primary School, 19 Heath St., Oakland;
• Messalonskee Middle School, 33 School Bus Drive, Oakland;
• China Middle School, 773 Lakeview Drive, China;
• Belgrade Central Schoo, 158 Depot Road, Belgrade;
• James Bean School, 2896 Middle Road, Sidney;
• Rome Community Center, 6 Mercer Road, Rome; and
• Oakland Boat Landing, Old Belgrade Avenue, Oakland.
The goal is to feed as many children as possible during the summer break to help bridge the gap until school opens in the fall. Anyone 18 and younger can pick up a breakfast and lunch meal, with no questions asked.
For more information, call the Summer Meal Contact Barbara Bonnell, nutrition director , at 207-465-7384, ext. 2661.
There are many other summer meal sponsors throughout the state where children can get a lunch at no cost. It is not necessary to be a resident in the towns where these meals are offered.
