GREENWOOD — Last week, selectmen discussed an offer by current owner of the former town mill, Louise Jonaitis, who wishes to donate three parcels of land to the town.
The land includes the parking lot in front of the mill, post office and the land between the town hall and church building. Jonaitis said she thought the town could use the space for town hall and church parking. Jonaitis also had spoken to someone who was interested in setting up a Gazebo in the lot nearest to the dam and having concerts held there.
After some discussion, selectmen decided to tell Jonaitis that they plan to accept her offer for all the three parcels of land to the town, provided that there are no “incumbrances” on any of those parcels.
“As long as the deeds are clean on all three parcels, we’ll accept them,” Selectman Norm Milliard said.
When the situation with the lease is resolved, selectman plan to eventually donate the third parcel of land to the church, but will first have to ask town voters before doing so.
“I don’t think the lots are usable for anything other than a park or parking,” Select Woman Amy Chapman said.
Jonaitis was not present at the meeting.
Selectmen also briefly touched on the results of the annual town meeting in May, which saw all articles pass. Town Manager Kim Sparks added that it was nice to see residents back together following a year hiatus.
“It was exciting to have everyone together,” Sparks said.
