100 Years Ago: 1921
Archdeacon George Robinson and his wife were given a genuine surprise Wednesday evening, when a party of young people from Trinity Church, Lewiston, of which Archdeacon Robinson is rector, hung a massive May basket filled with many good things, and in addition brought gifts too large for the basket to the home of the Robinsons.
50 Years Ago: 1971
The annual Arbor Day exercises are scheduled for 1 pm, Friday in the gymnasium at the Sherwood Heights Elementary School in Auburn, and the highlight of the ceremonies will be the dedication of a tree and a plaque of late Ray H. Thayer, for many years president of the Auburn School committee. Mr. Thayer died earlier this year. The memorial tree was placed recently on the school grounds, and following the ceremonies in the gymnasium the plaque will be taken out of doors and set up adjacent to the tree. A year ago, similar services were held when a tree was planted and dedicated to former President Eisenhower.
25 Years Ago: 1996
Carol Roy will instruct a craft class specifically designed to create a useful and practical handmade gift for Father’s Day from 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 11. Supplies will be provided and all participants will need to do at the end of the class will be to wrap their handmade gift. For more information or to pre-register (required) contact the YWCA or visit the YWCA at 130 East Ave., Lewiston, A sample of the craft will be on display in the lobby one week prior to the class.
