LOCKE MILLS — Jackson-Silver Post 68, American Legion, plans to host its Memorial Day 2021 ceremonies in the parking lot at 595 Gore Road on Monday, May 31.
The day will begin at 9:15 a.m. with a welcome by Post 68 Cmdr. Harry Orcutt, followed by a prayer by Post 68 Chaplain Dan Grover. Adj. Kelly Bickford will play “National Anthem” on car radio.
Following a reading of the Soldiers Prayer, the 91st Psalm, Unit 68 Legion Auxiliary will introduce the Poppy Girls. Poppies are available by donation at the table in front of memorial bench.
After more music, Unit 68 Legion Auxiliary will place flowers on North Pond, the commander will place a flag at the veterans silhouette in front of Post 68, and Unit 68 Legion Auxiliary will place a wreath at the Post’s veterans monument in front of Great Hall.
Grover will deliver the Prayer of Benediction, followed by the firing squad salute. Taps with echo will be played by Jane Chandler and Ellen Whitney of the Mahoosuc Band; the commander will then close the ceremony.
At 11 a.m., Post 68 participants will adjourn to the East Bethel Cemetery on Middle Intervale Road for a service. After concluding there, they will return to the Post.
At 1 p.m., Post 68 will attend the Daughters of Union Veterans outdoors ceremonies at Woodstock. There will be no parade or firing salute at Lakeside cemetery.
In case of inclement weather, Woodstock Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War’s afternoon ceremonies will occur at the Franklin Grange Hall 124, Main Street, Bryant Pond.
