LEWISTON — The city’s high school graduation will take place as planned at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport despite relaxed guidelines for outdoor distancing.
Auburn has moved the Edward Little High School ceremony to the football field at Walton Elementary School where students and visitors will sit side by side and masks will be optional.
Lewiston High School’s graduation will not be moved because the district has already signed a contract with the airport, Principal Gus LeBlanc said.
“The major obstacles are loss of contracted expenses in excess of $10,000,” he said.
He said the district also would have to obtain new vendors for some services because the vendors it uses are obligated to the airport site.
“This did not seem to be an issue for the Auburn schools,” LeBlanc said. “However, it is a major concern for us.”
Lewiston High School’s graduation is set for 11 a.m. Sunday, June 6. The airport gates will open at 9:30 a.m
