GREENWOOD — This Saturday, some residents will be spending part of their morning cleaning up Greenwood’s roadsides and are hoping for more people to join them. People interested in taking part in the town’s annual roadside cleanup, which was cancelled last year because of COVID-19, should be at the Greenwood Town Office at 9 a.m. where they’ll be given trash bags, gloves and masks. Cleaning is expected to go until around 10:30 a.m.
Organizer Betsey Foster said the number of people who volunteer will determine how many roads get cleaned and added that since the cleanup did not occur last year, there is more trash on the roadways than usual.
In the past, volunteers have driven around and picked up trash, while others have opted to walk to and pickup litter. Either way is fine.
If the pickup day this Saturday is cancelled due to rain, the makeup date will be Saturday, May 8.
The roadside cleanup is being sponsored by the Greenwood Conservation Commission. People with any questions can contact the Greenwood Town Office at 207-875-2773.
