SOFTBALL
JAY — After both teams scored in the first inning, Mountain Valley spaced out a couple more runs to take down Spruce Mountain 3-1 in MVC softball action on Tuesday.
Ali Legere struck out six batters for the Falcons (1-2) in the win. Legere also tallied a run for Mountain Valley when Gabbie Gallant drove her in. Brooke Brown and Gracie Farnum each scored as well for Mountain Valley.
The Phoenix (0-1) were led by Hannah Turcotte’s seven strikeouts. Jaydn Pingree scored the lone run for the Phoenix and pitched the last two innings.
Spruce Mountain was playing its first game of the season after two weeks of no contact for the team.
“It was nice to be on the field,” Phoenix coach Lisa Dube said.
POLAND 11, LAKE REGION 2: Emma Gagne’s five RBIs powered the Knights (3-1) to a win over the Lakers (1-2) at Naples.
Gretchen Paradis drove in two for Poland, with Emma Bunyea and Khloe O’Leary each adding one RBI. Paradis struck out seven.
Melissa Mayo had two strikeouts for Lake Region.
BASEBALL
LAKE REGION 5, POLAND 3: The Lakers (2-1) spread their scoring out to defeat the Knights (1-2) at Lake Region.
After a 1-1 first inning, Lake Region added runs in the third and fourth to take a 4-1 lead, followed by another run in the sixth before Poland added two.
Hunter Tremblay had three hits and drove in a run for Lake Region.
Poland’s Mitchell Bean took the loss, but drove in two runs in the seventh on a double.
BOYS LACROSSE
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 7, ST. DOMINIC 6: Will Galligan scored the winner with 8 seconds to play in regulation as the Raiders (1-5) topped the Saints (0-1) at Lewiston.
Galligan led Fryeburg Academy with five goals, and Owen Galligan and Myles Garland tossed in a goal apiece. Patrick Harris had 15 saves for the Raiders.
Devdan Young and Roman Vitolo had two goals apiece for the Saints, with Murphy Randall and Matt Fletcher scoring the others. Aaron Thibault manned the St. Dom’s goal.
