FREEPORT — Amelia Cobb and Morgan Curtis combined for five hits as Gray-New Gloucester cruised past Freeport 15-1 in WMC softball action Wednesday.

Cobb went 2-3 at the plate and Curtis went 3-3 with a double. A 3-4 performance from Heather Neville plus a three-run shot and a two-hit complete game on the mound from Madison Pelletier helped give the Patriots the edge.

BASEBALL

FREEPORT 11, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER, 6 innings: The Falcons picked up a season-opening 11-1 win in a rain-soaked WMC baseball game against the Patriots on Wednesday in Freeport.

Anthony Panciocco went 2 for 3, including the walk-off home run in the sixth inning that gave Freeport the mercy-rule victory.

Julian Gideon had two hits and two RBI. Blaine Cockburn pitched four innings of no-hit ball with 11 strikeouts and two walks.

The Patriots scored an unearned run in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Starting pitcher Wyatt Kenney had five strikeouts during his outing.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again Thursday in Gray.
