Lewiston native Christy Gardner will bring her service dogs Moxie and Lucky to a book signing event for “Lucky … Little Guy, BIG Mission” from 12-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, at EllieAnna’s Gift Shop in Lewiston. Gardner will bring some puppies with her in training to the event.

The book is a true story about Lucky, a little puppy born with an unusual front leg, in which only Gardner saw potential. Others saw him with a flaw, Gardner saw him with lots of love to give. The story of Lucky is that of a special puppy with an incredible personality and a special mission. The book shares how Gardner and her service dog, Moxie, took Lucky into their home and how Moxie helped teach Lucky that he can do things like other puppies, he just has to figure out his own way. This story is about anti-bullying and that being different is okay, and to never, never give up.

Gardner, a double-amputee Army veteran, raises and trains dogs to be service animals through her nonprofit organization, Mission Working Dogs, which helps provide properly trained service dogs to people living with a disability to help them live more independently. She is fundraising to have a home and training facility built in Oxford. Gardner is also a para-athlete and plans to try out for the Tokyo Olympics.

Proceeds from the book and t-shirts go to Gardner to help her mission.

EllieAnna’s Gift shop is located at 785 Main St., Lewiston. More information about Gardner’s work is available at missionworkingdogs.org.
