MONMOUTH — Brooklyn Federico threw a one-hitter while striking out 12, and Emma Johnson had a home run among her two hits to lead the Monmouth softball team to a 12-3 victory over Mountain Valley on Monday.
Federico had three hits for Monmouth (1-0), while Kayla Truman had a double among two hits. Abby Flanagan had a triple and Katie Laliberte had a double for the Mustangs, who totaled 11 hits.
Autumn Freeman had a triple for Mountain Valley (0-1).
MADISON 33, MT. ABRAM 0: Lilian Levesque drove in five runs and Brooke McKenney struck out 12 as the Bulldogs rolled to the Mountain Valley Conference victory in Salem.
Landyn Landry, Arabel Linkletter and Jersey Tewksbury each drove in four runs for Madison as well.
Levesque had three hits, including a triple. Linkletter and Tewksbury each doubled as well for the Bulldogs, which scored eight runs in the first inning and 14 in the second.
BASEBALL
DIRIGO 11, TELSTAR 4: Derek Ducharme had four hits and drove in three runs in the Cougars’ season-opening win over the Rebels in Bethel.
Dirigo trailed 1-0 before breaking the game open with a four-run fourth inning. Dallas Berry and Jacob York each added a pair of hits for the Cougars.
Cain Shatzer and Cam Valvestie each had a double for Telstar (1-1)
OXFORD HILLS 9, GREELY 4: Trailing 4-2, the Vikings plowed past the Rangers with a seven-run sixth inning en route to a season-opening win in Paris.
Andrew Merrill had two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs for Oxford Hills. Ty LeBlond also had at triple, and Isaiah Oufiero had two hits, reached base four times and drove in a run.
Ethan Cutler, who entered the game in relief in the third inning, held Greely to one run the remainder of the game to earn the win.
The Rangers scored one run in each of the first four innings. Brooks Williams had three hits, including a double.
