100 Years Ago: 1921

The Calumet club will give another one of their jolly assemblies at the Mystic Ballroom tonight with the members of the social committees, Messrs. O’ Brien, Tuttle, and Coffin in charge. All members are expected to be present.

50 Years Ago: 1971

Mrs. Margaret Cody of the staff of the Auburn Public Library will attend the meeting of the Auburn Exchange Club at The Roundhouse Motor Inn, Tuesday to discuss the Freedom Shrine which club members will present to Auburn’s school children. The Shrine will be placed at the Auburn Public Library, to make it easier for everyone to see and use it. Robert Dumas is program chairman for this week’s meeting, which wives of members are invited to attend. Wednesday at 9 a.m. there will be a dedication ceremony of the Freedom Shrine at Auburn Central School auditorium. Jack Harris is in charge of this event of which members and their guests are Invited to attend.

25 Years Ago: 1996

Many little girls dream of being a princess or a teacher or a ballerina, but when Gail Jordan was a little girl, she wanted to grow up to become a barber. “Barbering has been my dream since the age of five years in East Andover, when my Dad, Owen White took me with him into a barber shop,” she said. She  was so enthralled with the hair cutting and the shaving, she decided on the spot that was what she would do later in life. She decided it would be an interesting, neat job and someday that “is what I wanted to do. And here is what she is doing, exactly what she planned as a little girl. Jordan has been in the barbering business for more than 16 years.
