AVON — A Phillips man was arrested on a charge of drunken-driving Wednesday after the truck he was driving snapped a utility pole on Route 4 and injured his 12-year-old male passenger.

Jesse J. Longley, 45, of Phillips was charged with operating under the influence and endangering the welfare of a child, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. wrote in an email.

The boy reported minor injuries and was treated at the scene by NorthStar EMS ambulance personnel, Nichols wrote.

Longley was driving a 2016 Ford F-150 south about 4:15 p.m. when it snapped the pole, sending wires onto the truck and across the highway, and knocking out power to the area, according to Nichols.

Longley was taken to the Franklin County jail in Farmington and released Thursday morning on $200 bail. He is scheduled to appear June 6 at a Farmington court.

A conviction for each charge is punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.

Strong and Phillips fire departments, and Maine Department of Transportation personnel closed the road for several hours while Central Maine Power cleared the lines.
