LEWISTON — In a letter Tuesday, Lewiston Superintendent of Schools Jake Langlais announced new coronavirus cases.
Lewiston High School has seen six new positive cases, with close contacts reaching two additional teams. As of Tuesday afternoon, 125 students have been told they need to quarantine.
The two cases at Lewiston Middle School have created close contact with three staff members and 16 students. In the letter, Langlais said they will be in quarantine until April 17.
At Farwell Elementary, the new positive case brought eight students and four staff members to quarantine until April 18.
At Connors Elementary School the one case didn’t create contact with anyone else as the student stayed home.
In the letter Langlais stressed the importance of following the quarantine rules.
“I have heard about situations in which some are not following the expectations of quarantines,” he said. “This is contributing to further spread and the need to be remote. I continue to ask for your help with the guidelines so we can return in-person with our hybrid schedule after the break.”
Since March 31, there has been 31 new cases in the school system among students, bringing the total to 114 for the school year. There have been three more positive tests from staff members since March 31 and the year total now stands at 48.
Langlais also said the school system is still short seven bus drivers, which led the school system to go remote learning this week. Three drives are out because of COVID-19 and another four out to other medical related situations.
