A senior at Edward Little High School John Pulsifer, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pulsifer of Mechanic Falls, is well on his way to a rewarding life time job as a professional baker. He started cooking back in the second and third grades and has continued further by decorating cakes. John has baked everything from simple little cupcakes to elaborate wedding creations, to serve up to 300 people. On Friday, March 26, John spent the day at Webster Junior High School In Auburn, demonstrating cake decorating to the girls in the Home Economic Classes. The girls had baked cakes the day before and frosted them. On Friday, John changed each one of their plain frosted cakes into beautiful, pastry creations. John also teaches this art to area women on Tuesday evenings at his class in Mechanic Falls. The world of Cake Decorating is not merely copying cakes from pictures, but a world in which the decorator must let his imagination run away with itself, thus creating truly beautiful cakes and hand crafted frosted creation. Next year John plans to attend S.M.V.T.I. in South Portland majoring in Culinary Arts. He feels that this line of work will be rewarding.

The Countryside Dancers selected their king and queen for the current year at a recent dance event. Selected, by vote of a crowd of 140, were Norm and Claire Anctil of Lewiston, who are active in TCSD activities. Anctil is director of the event committee and his wife serves on the board of directors and on the events committee. They are also on the committee for C/W Showcase ’96, a dance and show being held at the Nickelodeon in Mechanic Falls May 5. The Anctils are owners of Gilbert’s Gallery in Lewiston, and Mrs. Anctil is a radiologic technologist. The Countryside Dancers were organized three years ago to promote country-western style dancing in the Lewiston-Auburn area. The club frequently does demonstrations and has appeared at the balloon festival, the Franco-American Festival, the Moxie Festival, and at many fund-raising events.
