WILTON — Monday afternoon, March 29, winds toppled a spruce tree at 221 Village View pulling telephone and power lines from the home and damaging a vehicle.

“I’m glad I wasn’t in it,” Karen Shovelton said. “I had just come back from the Post Office.”

Central Maine Power Co. linemen Justin Fisher used a pole to move the lines so the tree could be worked on. Lucas Tree Experts employee Mike Marble wielded a chain saw to cut the spruce into smaller pieces. Fellow employee Shane Holden, with help from Fisher dragged the top of the tree to an open lawn across the street. The three then removed other pieces.

Meanwhile, CMP Co. lineman Drew Soule reattached the lines to the home.

“Thank you guys for cutting that up,” resident Kevin Black said. “I really appreciate it.”

It’s too bad, it’s totaled, he said of the car.

“We went all the way through winter, then this had to happen,” Black said.

Wilton Public Works cleaned up the tree debris Tuesday morning.

Several other areas in town saw trees or limbs come down, Public Works Foreman John Masse said in a phone interview Tuesday.

“One on Swett Road which lost power. The top of a tree is still on the power line on Pleasant Road but power wasn’t lost,” he said. “One on Pleasant Street, one on Orchard Drive. A limb came down on Lake Road, it didn’t affect power.”

Three of CMP’s 2,295 Wilton customers were without power at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday according to their website. One customer each on Farmer, Gibbons and Guy Chandler roads had CMP’s estimated restoration listings as ‘assessing’ on the website.

In Franklin County, 491 CMP customers were still without power according to the CMP website. Madrid showed 209, Carrabassett Valley 146, Weld 73 and Phillips 47. All other towns had between one and five without power.
