Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity will hold a walk-athon Easter weekend to raise money to build a house on Winter Street on land donated by the city. The organization, which helps provide housing for those in need, hopes to begin work on the lot overlooking Pettengill Park this summer. “We always hope for an overwhelming turnout and that’s what we’d like this time,” said Habitat President Andrew Choate. He said the event also offers an opportunity for area churches to come together and show their support for the organization. The Auburn home will be Habitat’s second in the Twin Cities area. After a busy year last year, completing two houses in New Gloucester and one in Leeds, Habitat is headed into its ninth building season with its coffers already stretched. The Twin Cities mayors have jointly issued a proclamation in support of the upcoming walk-a-thon, which runs April 6 from 7:30 to 6pm and April 6 from 7:30am to 3 pm. It begins at the Grace Lutheran Church at Park and Mount Auburn Avenues.
