The Edward Little Red Eddies have continued the momentum from the 2019-20 season with a 5-1 victory over the St. Dominic Academy Saints at Norway Savings Bank Arena Saturday for their first win of the season.
The Red Eddies finished the 2019-20 season winning seven of their final eight games including knocking off the Saints in the state quarterfinals.
Wesley Clements played a big role Saturday night with a hat trick while Xander St. Pierre had a a goal and an assist.
Clements opened the scoring at the 2:43 mark of the first half (boys hockey is playing 23-minute halves this year due to COVID protocols) with Jack Keefe and Keegan Moon notching the assists.
St. Pierre’s goal nearly six minutes later came shorthanded to give the Red Eddies a 2-0 lead with Wil Cassidy setting the goal up.
Clements closed the first half with second goal of the games with 32 seconds remaining. Jack Keefe had his second assist.
Campbell Cassidy stretched the Red Eddies lead to 4-0 early in the second half with St. Pierre recording his second point of the game with an assist.
Clements potted his third goal of the game with with just under 11 minutes remaining in the game. Payton Dyer recorded the helper.
Colin Casserley broke Gage Ducharme (16 saves) shutout bid as Pushard put the Saints on the board with nine minutes remaining in the contest. Lucas Pushard had the assist.
Nathan Jones made 29 saves in the loss for St. Dom’s.
