AUBURN — In a series of collisions, a pickup truck hit two cars, gas pump pillars, a building and ran over shrubbery at a Shell gas station and McDonald’s restaurant plaza on Minot Avenue shortly before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
The truck first hit a car stopped at the drive-thru window at the McDonald’s. After the 2014 Mazda was moved by restaurant staff, the pickup truck unexpectedly accelerated and struck an unoccupied car parked at a nearby Shell gas pump while the driver was pumping gas, damaging both the car and the pumps’ protection pillar, according to Deputy Police Chief Timothy Cougle.
The driver of the pickup truck then backed through the restaurant’s drive-thru and the truck came to rest in some shrubbery, Cougle said.
The building sustained cosmetic damage in the incident but remained open, Cougle said.
The pickup truck and the car at the gas pumps were towed from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, he said.
Cougle said the pickup truck driver may have suffered a medical episode at the time of the incidents.
The driver was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation. No injuries were reported.
