TURNER — A Mexico man was injured Thursday morning when his car crossed the centerline on Route 4 and struck a tractor-trailer headed south.
Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office investigators said Lucas Dalton, 40, was driving a 2013 Subaru when it’s believed he fell asleep and it struck at 2020 International tractor-trailer driven by Christopher Brown, 36 of Norridgewock. The tractor-trailer is owned by Walmart Transportation
Dalton was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by Turner Rescue for injuries not considered life threatening.
Brown was not hurt.
The vehicles collided near The Big Apple and Dunkin’. Police said it does not appear speed or alcohol were factors.
The accident was reconstructed by a member of the Sheriff’s Office. The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit also responded, which is standard in crashes involving a commercial vehicle. Both vehicles had extensive damage and were towed from the scene.
Route 4 between Fern Street and Woods Road was closed to traffic during the investigation and cleanup.
The Maine Department of Transportation and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection assisted in cleanup up fuel spilled from the diesel tank.
Route 4 was reopened to traffic about 2:30 p.m.
