United Way volunteer Rachel McKinley, left, picks up boxes of diapers from Erica Dostie during the United Way of Androscoggin County Diaper Drive in Auburn on Friday. Dostie and her colleagues from Austin Associates donated the boxes of diapers. The event, held in the parking lot of Norway Savings Bank Arena, is a “mini version” of the United Way’s Day of Caring, a day when volunteers spread out across the community to volunteer their time. This year’s Day of Caring was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the diaper drive portion of the day continued, said Joleen Bedard of the United Way. Five agencies that distribute diapers to families in need divided up the donated diapers. McKinley’s employer Maine Community Bank gave her time to help with the drive.
