RUMFORD — A Massachusetts man was arrested this week after local police stopped his car and found about $17,000 worth of fentanyl and crack cocaine on him.
According to Rumford Police Chief Tony Milligan, Jerry Philogene, 29, of Roxbury, Massachusetts, was charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, refusing to submit to arrest or detention and failure to provide name and address.
The chief said the police drug canine team stopped Philogene’s vehicle on Hancock Street on Sunday evening and found Philogene hiding facedown on the floor in the back seat. He struggled with officers after reaching into his pants pockets, Milligan wrote.
Officers said they later found three bags of drugs concealed in his pants.
The 60 grams of fentanyl and 15 grams of crack have a total street value of $17,000, Milligan said. Sixty grams of fentanyl is about 600 doses, he said.
Philogene was transported to the Oxford County Jail in Paris and released hours later after a friend posted $5,000 cash bail. He is expected to appear in 11th District Court in Rumford on Aug. 10.
Philogene was convicted of violation of release in 2018 after being arrested on drug charges on Chase Avenue in Mexico in 2017, according to court records.
A conviction for aggravated drug trafficking is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
