MDOT engineers are getting some competition from their natural counterparts on Route 26 in Greenwood. Several times this summer beavers have built a dam under the bridge that carries Route 26 over the waterway connection between Round and North ponds, blocking boat passage headed from the Round Pond boat ramp to North Pond. The town and private citizens have taken the beavers’ structure apart each time, but the persistent animals have rebuilt. Debris from the last construction is visible here. At last week’s selectmen’s meeting, the board decided to hire an expert to trap the beavers and relocate them. Bethel Citizen photo by Alison Aloisio Buy this Photo
