RUMFORD — Steve Dyment has announced his candidacy for a seat on the Board of Selectmen.

Dyment said he grew up in Mexico but made Rumford “the place to raise my family and now call home.”

Dyment, a driver for a local oil delivery company, said his work enables him to be out in the community daily.

“I see the good and the bad around town,” he said, “and feel the urgency to improve and adjust some things.”

Dyment said he spent the past year attending as many local board meetings as he could to understand the “mechanics” of the Board of Selectmen.

“I currently sit on the Planning Board for the town of Rumford, so I have an outlook of things to come,” he said. “As a selectman, I would do everything to bring Rumford  forward in the way this town could and should be. Our town must be given every opportunity to grow into greatness again.”

Dyment said he is committed to “transparency and honesty” for taxpayers.

“I will work as a team with any and all committees to ensure we get the best bang for our dollars,” he said.

Dyment said he believes taxes are too high and people do not know why. He said he seeks voters’ support so he can “find the answers.”

The election is scheduled for June 11.
