CHESTERVILLE — Black ice played a part in two vehicles rolling over Friday afternoon on Route 156 in Chesterville and on Routes 2/27 in in New Sharon.

Jordan Chapman, 23, of Jay was driving her vehicle toward Jay on Route 156 in Chesterville when it hit black ice and struck a snowbank before it rolled over several times and struck a tree, Deputy Brian McCormick of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Chapman’s 3-year-old daughter Ava was secured in a child safety seat, he said. She was not injured but was checked out at the scene by NorthStar EMS ambulance personnel, he said. Her mother declined treatment.

Chesterville Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Earlier in the afternoon, McCormick responded to another rollover on Routes 2/27 near Weeks Mills Road. A pickup truck driven by Melissa Malone, 34, of Farmington was headed toward Farmington when it hit black ice. Malone lost control and the truck hit a snowbank and rolled onto its side, he said.

Malone was not injured, he said.
