Last meeting: Did not meet during regular season but the two schools did face each other for the Class A state softball title last spring. Scarborough won, 12-0.
Common opponents: While the teams did not meet, they did share eight common opponents as part of the crossover agreement between KVAC and SMAA schools — Edward Little, Lewiston, Cheverus, Deering, Portland, Windham, Gorham and South Portland. Counting only regular season meetings, Scarborough was 8-1 in those games. Oxford Hills was 8-2. Scarborough played Gorham twice, while Oxford Hills played Edward Little and Lewiston twice. Both teams lost to South Portland.
Gold ball history: This is Scarborough’s second state title game appearance. The Red Storm defeated Skowhegan for the Class A crown, 52-32, in 2010. This is Oxford Hills’ fourth state championship game appearance and second in the last three years. The Vikings have lost all three, the first two when they were in Class A, 55-43 to Deering in 2008 and 67-41 to Catherine McAuley in 2014. The Vikings lost to Gorham, 45-31, in the AA state final in 2017.
