FRYEBURG — Leavitt’s Roy Varney and Mt. Blue’s Emma Charles were the two winners Monday afternoon during the Class A state Nordic classical race at Stark’s Hill.
Varney won the boys’ race in a time of 15:32.6, which was 19.3 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Nate Livingood of Falmouth.
Livingood’s brother and teammate Ethan finished in third for Falmouth with a time of 16:14.6.
Mt. Blue came out as the team leaders after day, notching six finishers in the top 20 of the boys’ race. Cheverus/Deering/Portland had four finishers in the top 16 and and Falmouth had five in the top 26.
It was all Emma Charles in the girls’ race.
The Mt. Blue freshman (17:25.8) defeated second-place Emily Gerencer of St. Dom’s by 73 seconds. Gerencer completed the race in 18:39.
Zoe Maguire of Fryeburg finished third, Chelsea Seabold of Mt. Blue finished fourth and Leavitt’s Jaidyn Negley rounded-out the top-five.
The top team on the girls’ side was Cheverus/Deering/Portland, which had eight of the top 22 finishers.
