Rec department holding craft workshops

OXFORD — The Oxford Recreation Department will host Kids Craft from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20. Participants will create paper flowers.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, the department will host a workshop to make penny rugs. Supplies will be provided. Bring a pair of sharp scissors. Another craft will be a memory wreath. Supply clothing from a loved one or a special occasion. Small photos can also be added to the wreath. Bring sharp scissors.

These events are free and open to the public.

SnowCross at Titcomb Mountain

FARMINGTON — SnowCross will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Titcomb Mountain. Free activities will include a snowboard demonstration, snowshoeing, snowboard and ski lessons. Bring or rent equipment. A fire pit for enjoying cocoa and s’mores, snow sculpting, action photos, games and raffles are also among the activities.

The first 50 registrants will get $5 off a lift ticket or rental equipment. Rates for the day are: lift tickets, half-day $18.50, full day, $15; rentals, half-day $10, full day $15. Half-day is 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 to 4 p.m. Those attending may bring a lunch or purchase one at the event.

Selectmen to hold morning social

NEW SHARON — The Board of Selectmen will host a Meet the Candidates social at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Cape Cod Hill School.

This is an opportunity for residents to meet candidates running for one seat on the board. Following the social, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., will be candidate introductions and a Q&A. The event will be moderated by Paul Mills.

Light refreshments will be available.

Poet laureate to read at church

WEST PARIS — Stuart Kestenbaum, Maine’s poet laureate, will read his works at 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at the First Universalist Church of West Paris, 208 Main St.

Titled “Poetry as Prayer,” the service will include readings throughout. Kestenbaum is the author of four collections of poems, and a collection of essays titled “The View From Here.” He has written and spoken widely on craft-making and creativity, and his poems and writing have appeared in numerous small press publications and magazines. He was appointed poet laureate of Maine in 2016. He is an honorary fellow of the American Craft Council and a recipient of the Distinguished Educator’s Award from the James Renwick Alliance.

Refreshments will follow the service.
